#10 ¿Que pasó? with Señor B - week of 6/2

This week's newsletter exposes the calculated cruelty of an immigration system that profits from caging families, blocks lawmakers from investigating its abuses, and unjustly targets its own victims for deportation.

In partnership with

Como siempre I hid a gift for someone somewhere in this newsletter, with the hopes of bringing a little joy to at least one person during these hard times we are facing.

Below are some of the stories we talked about this week→

Los Angeles Stands Up Against ICE

It has been inspiring to see the people of Los Angeles consistently stand up against the racist and fascist acts of the federal immigration enforcement. In past events, whenever large-scale ICE operations have taken place, community members and protestors have bravely stood against family separations and unjust arrests.

It is a documented fact that in many past enforcement operations, a significant number of those arrested by ICE have no criminal record; raids are intended to instill fear in communities rather than to ensure public safety.

The scenes from past confrontations have been wild, with law enforcement in riot gear using tactics like tear gas and physical force against protestors. These moments highlight the immense resources invested in terrorizing our communities. Yet, in response, the people have consistently shown they will not stand for it, demonstrating powerful and inspiring resistance.

The Prison Industrial Complex: People Making Billions From Our Communities Suffering

The private prison industry's business , which relies on high incarceration rates to generate profit, is once again targeting immigrant families. Facilities that were previously closed are now reopening as "residential centers" to hold people, including young children, who are caught in the immigration system.

Una historia reciente highlighting the tragedy of a fourth-grader allegedly held with his father in one of these facilities shows us the human cost of this business. For years, the connection has been clear: for-profit companies like GEO Group and CoreCivic have a financial incentive to keep detention centers full. Their profits are directly tied to the number of people they hold, a majority of whom come from marginalized backgrounds. This creates a powerful motive to lobby for policies that lead to more arrests and longer detentions, regardless of the legitimacy of the cases.

This isn't a bug in the system; it's the system working as designed. Profiting from the suffering of others, particularly children and those unlawfully detained, is a profound moral failure. It's further proof that an industry built on caging human beings for financial gain cannot be reformed—it must be abolished.

Representatives Unable to Audit Detention Facilities

Four U.S. Representatives were recently denied entry to an ICE detention facility they had arrived to inspect. In a video of the incident, each representative identifies themselves as a representative and one of them as a member of the Homeland Security committee—the very body charged with overseeing the agency.

The reason they were turned away? It wasn't "business hours."

This excuse to block elected officials from doing their jobs is alarming, especially given the consistent reports of horrific conditions inside. We have seen and heard accounts of children and families being held without adequate food, water, or beds. These are not just failures of care; they are clear human rights violations. When the agency responsible for this treatment actively prevents oversight, it raises a serious question: What are they trying to hide? This incident should be a call to action for more representatives to demand transparency and accountability from these taxpayer-funded organizations.

We need transparency 🤘🏽 #losangeles #california #immigrant #ice #raids #latino #latina

Man Wrongfully Accused of Threatening President Faces Deportation in Apparent Retaliation Scheme

A wild story of injustice is unfolding as Ramon Morales-Reyes, a man who was working with law enforcement after being the victim of a violent assault, finds himself detained and in the middle of deportation proceedings. The reason for his detention was a letter threatening the life of the president—a letter he did not write.

El descarado that wrote the threatening letter was allegedly the very person Morales-Reyes had helped put behind bars. In an attempt to have the key witness against him removed from the country, the incarcerated individual reportedly confessed to forging the letter in Morales-Reyes's name. The hope, it seems, was that with Morales-Reyes deported, the case against him would collapse.

Despite the confession and evidence that Morales-Reyes was framed, he remains in removal proceedings. What makes this even more wild is that he was in the process of applying for a U visa, a specific visa set aside for victims of crime who have been helpful to law enforcement.

This case raises serious questions about the investigative diligence of la migra. Clearly coming for people trying to do things the right way that are nor posing a danger to this country.

This is hella messed up 😡 #undocumentedimmigrants #uvisa #framed #truecrime #trump

Young People Advocating for Their Parents

A heartbreaking video shows children pleading for their parents, who are facing deportation by ICE despite in the process of applying for U Visas. The trauma inflicted on these children, who cry that they "cannot do anything without their parents," is a direct result of this bureaucratic cruelty. Tearing families apart serves no purpose beyond creating more harm.

If people who are advocating for this really care about families and young people than we would be seeing something different to take care of peoples immigration status.

I know watching images like this one can be heartbreaking, pero creo que it’s necessary to continue to bring attention to moments like this. Let’s help these young people get the attention this story deserves.

This is going to be on the wrong side of history #deportations #immigration #latino #latina #youth
