The ongoing incarceration of Alex Enamorado, the closure of a rural Nebraska hospital due to budget cuts despite local voting patterns, ICE's controversial opening of a private migrant facility in California, the President's unsubstantiated claims about educational spending on translation services, and the importance of confronting hateful rhetoric.

Saludos!
I hope you all are staying safe, and you took some of the time back you may have had to reflect and take care of yourselves.
The 4th of July has never been much of a celebration on my end, but this year in particular it felt extra sad. It’s hard to take the day and do any type of celebration knowing the cost of human trauma this country is causing at this moment. Let me be super clear, I don’t hate the United States. This country has given so many of us opportunities to be able to uplift ourselves. I do hate the folks that run it and that are creating harm. Part of caring for something also means being able to critique it so that it can get better- which is something that many folks don’t seem to get.
Anyways enough of my inner thoughts lol below are some stories of the week. Please support me on YouTube if you don’t already! Also I hit a gift somewhere in this newsletter, good luck to whoever finds it first :)

Don’t Forget About Alex!Alex Enamorado, the advocate for street vendors and content creator, has been incarcerated for almost a year and a half. He has a court date approaching in just a few days, it's crucial to stay informed about his case. Please watch this video for a recap and sign the petition if you haven't already. Nebraska Hospital Closing DownThis week, we got hit with some wild news: a hospital in rural Nebraska is shutting down because of anticipated cuts to their program. Unfortunately, this is probably just the first of many such stories we're going to hear as these cuts roll out. What's EVEN more shocking? Most of the folks in that area voted for the administration making these moves. This is another example of people voting against their interests thinking that those in power will deliver them better opportunities. I know to some this may seem like a FAFO situation, but at the end of the day many of those folks are victims to the greater systems at play, benefitting the ultra wealthy in our country. |

ICE Opening Another Private Facility in CaliforniaConcerning news in California, where La Migra is reportedly establishing a new private detention facility. This development is particularly notable as it will occupy the site of a recently closed private correctional facility. Despite California's ban on private detention centers, this operation appears to sidestep the regulation due to the facility detaining migrants. The financial expenses of this project are huge, with millions of dollars promised for its development. This plan serves as another example of the prison industrial complex's expanding reach. It represents a troubling trend where the profound trauma and vulnerability experienced by individuals within the migrant community are being leveraged for financial gain. |

President Lies on Money Spent on ELL KidsWe heard the President deliver a truly head-scratching speech, spreading false claims about money allegedly being blown on students who don't speak English. He claimed $78 billion is being spent on translation services alone. Let that sink in for a second… $78 BILLION. That number is so conically large, it's just unbelievable, and frankly, completely unsubstantiated by any real data on federal education spending for English Language Learners. What's truly disheartening, though, is that at this point, we're almost numb to hearing such blatant lies spread so casually. And yet, his supporters will hang onto these claims to continue to perpetuate his fascist agenda. It's a sad reality when the expectation of truth from our elected officials feels like a distant memory. |

Bobby is Back and What He RepresentsI want to shine a light on the story of Robert Brewster, not because he deserves any platform, but because his words showcase a deeply troubling reality about the sentiments many in the United States have towards Brown communities. This man, who is without a doubt a terrible person, is essentially saying the quiet parts out loud. He serves as a representation of the hate and racism that exists in this country, given the alarming level of support he receives. It's a reminder that such hate is not isolated, but actively growing. Please, let's stand together against this kind of hate. Call it out, challenge it, and refuse to let it fester, because if left unchecked, it will undoubtedly continue to spread like the virus it truly is. |

Personal Update:
Back in the day me and one of my friends got into this idea that we wanted to do “white people things” 🤣 It was for fun but also a way for us to fight for welcoming and representations in spaces where maybe we didn’t feel that way. We took up things like disc golf and surfing (since it Cali it isn’t seen as a POC pastime); it was a fun time. Yesterday I was reminded of that time in my life when I went out to a golfing range; I am absolutely terrible but I had fun lol
I am hoping to use my new freedom to explore some things for fun I haven’t been able to in a while! Hope I can bring you all along to show you 🙂
