¡Saludos!

I made new shirts last week! Find them here. I think they’re a dope way to fight against the perceptions that being paisa is bad. Plus could be a cool gift for your paisa homies 🙂

As usual I’m trying to grow my support system on YT. Any support is appreciated! We are almost at 500 🫠

Below are stories of the week 🙂

Your Family’s Privacy Online

A couple of weeks ago, something spooky happened that really shook me. A complete stranger messaged me my family's address, claiming they had called la migra on me. Honestly, that was hella freaky and a reminder of how exposed we can be online.

It immediately sent me down a deep rabbit hole researching how to better protect my family and our data. I learned how much personal information someone can dig up with just a name and a city. It made me realize how important it is to protect our information.

I strongly encourage you to look into data removal . While you can definitely tackle it yourself for free, it can be a lengthy process. I personally used INCOGNI for my own peace of mind. If you decide to use them through the link above it helps me- pero feel free to research and choose whichever tool or method works best for you. The most important thing is to take control of your privacy.

It’s worthy of taking a look tbh #undocumentedimmigrants #dreamer #SeñorB #immigrants #data

Children in Cages AGAIN

.

Chilling images have emerged from immigrant detention centers, revealing the heartbreaking reality of children held within their walls. You can see their little fingers desperately reaching out, trying to get attention, a symbol of their vulnerability and isolation.

We've all heard the reports of terrible, inhumane conditions in these places, but seeing these images, imagining the silent pleas, makes it… real. This is not okay. Humanity must come first. We are witnessing the creation of profound trauma that will, without a doubt, follow these children for a lifetime. The impact of such experiences on young, developing minds is deeply concerning.

ICE Official Admits What We Already Know

Recently, Tom Homan, a figure who is a high ranking officer within ICE, made some statements that are hella bad. He essentially admitted what many of us have suspected all along: that ICE is profiling people.

Even more disturbingly, he outright stated that they don't need probable cause to detain someone. This goes against so much that this country supposedly stands for; fundamental rights, due process, the very principles of justice. While what he said might confirm what we already knew in our hearts, hearing it directly from someone at that level is a chilling. He even went so far as to claim ICE agents are just acting the way they're trained.

What we're witnessing here is confirmation of an approach that flies in the face of decency and justice. We are, without a doubt, on the wrong side of history with policies and practices like these.

We are experiencing the wrong side of history! #ice #lamigra #deportations #immigrant #undocumentedimmigrants

Immigration Detention Conditions

A brave congressman recently went inside a detention facility and tragically confirmed what migrants have been telling us all along. These places are not just holding people; they are, disturbingly, repeating history by confining individuals in conditions that are just like concentration camps.

People are not getting enough food, enough water, and they are deprived of fresh air. In some places, the lights are kept on 24 hours a day; a deliberate tactic that amounts to a form of cruel and unusual punishment for folks who are, by and large, not criminals.

A huge shout out to the congressmen and women who are speaking truth to power and exposing these injustices. Que triste that such conditions exist in our time.

Immigrant Loses Lung

One of the most heart breaking stories we heard about this week highlights the extreme cruelty faced by human beings A migrant, detained by ICE, suffered immensely due to the terrible conditions in the detention center where he was held.

The facility was reportedly extremely cold, leading him to contract a severe lung virus. The center continuously ignored his desperate pleas for medical support. They handed him over-the-counter pain meds and, unbelievably, punished him by ignoring him further if he annoyed the guards too much.

He was eventually taken to a hospital, but now ICE reportedly refuses to take responsibility for his ongoing well-being. He ended up in a coma, losing a part of his lung and now he struggles to do his own basic necessities.

To add insult to injury, they allegedly had him sign a self-deportation paper; a document that should absolutely not be considered valid, since it was signed under such duress and distress.

This is unequivocally not okay. It's a blatant disregard for human life and dignity.

Migrants should not have to go through these inhumane detentions #immigrant #undocumentedimmigrants #iceraids #deportations #lamigra

Personal Update:

Yesterday I had the opportunity to go to a play called Aztlan by Luis Alfaro. I don’t go into works of art like that often; mostly because it’s hard to connect with some of the topics they talk about, but this one was different. I felt seen from start to finish. I hope they bring it back, or made available online somehow, so y’all can experience it as well. After leaving the play I started reflecting on my own creative work.

For many years I considered myself a poet, but I stopped writing when things got too hefty with everything going on. One of my goals after leaving the principal gig is to go back to some of those things that make me feel whole. Here are a few poems that I’ve written in the past… maybe they’ll resonate with you?
