From deported mothers and detained students to violent arrests of legal residents, this newsletter shares the human stories behind the headlines while highlighting the inspiring acts of resistance from our community.

Hola familia,
This we saw so much harm happening towards immigrants and towards our constitution. Thank you for supporting the newsletter, this project aims to be one more way for us to stay connected. At the end during my personal note I will talk about the attack on my account and suppression, please scroll to the bottom. Gracias!
Below are stories of the week

ICE Facility is a Threat to HumanityA shocking new report has brought to light the truly horrific conditions at a migrant detention center, detailing over 60 violations in just 50 days. The report, which was based on an internal inspection by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, reveals a facility where the most basic human needs are being denied. According to the inspection, the Fort Bliss migrant detention center in El Paso, Texas is not providing detainees with proper food or access to necessary medical care. The report also found unsanitary conditions, and noted that the facility had issues with communication, making it difficult for immigrants to contact their legal counsel. This is not okay. This report is an undeniable part of the legacy this administration is leaving behind, a legacy of dehumanizing and dangerous conditions for people seeking refuge. This is a stain on our collective humanity, and something we must continue to fight against. |

Deported Mother Passes AwayThe Human Cost of Deportation The human cost of deportations hits us all with a trauma that we will carry for the rest of our lives. We have been learning this firsthand with the story of Estela Ramos Baten, a mother who was deported with her daughter, Nory Sontay Ramos, a California honor student and star athlete. Estela and her daughter were deported by la migra on the Fourth of July after a routine immigration check-in in Los Angeles. This goes against what the administration claimed they would target. Estela had fled Central America for her safety, but was sent back to Guatemala. Sadly, we have learned that Estela Ramos Baten passed away in Guatemala after just a few weeks. Her family confirmed that she was sent back without access to her medicine. This is a cruel and unacceptable outcome, and a devastating reminder of the human lives affected by these policies. |

La Migra Detains High School StudentYoung people should have to worry about what to wear to a dance or what they want to eat for lunch, not if they will be detained by ICE on their way to school. This terrifying reality became a headline in Milford, Massachusetts, just last week when la migra picked up a high school student while he was on his way to get a sandwich. The student, 16-year-old Gustavo Oliveira, was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents last Friday. He was held in their car for an hour before being released. This incident goes to show that ICE's actions are often indiscriminate, creating fear and trauma in communities. They are not just targeting who they say they are; they are going after everyone who "looks a certain way" and disrupting the lives of young people who are just trying to live their lives. This is a terrifying reality that our communities must endure. Please stay safe. |

La Migra Didn’t Care If You Have PapersThis week, we saw horrifying images that prove the cruelty of la migra, who violently detained a man in front of his wife, even though he was in the country legally. The video shows agents screaming at a man, punching him while his wife screams at them. The wife told officers that her husband had papers, despite that ICE agents violently pulled him from his vehicle, causing his wife to cry out in shock and fear. This is super unfair, and it exposes the lie that ICE is only going after criminals. This goes to show that they are going after anyone to meet their quotas, regardless of their legal status or the terror they inflict on families. It is a terrifying reality that shows the immense power they have and how little they care about the human cost of their actions. |

State Senator Kicks ICE From NeighborhoodThis week, we all saw a viral video that was inspiring and brought a sense of hope: State Senator Karina Villa of Illinois documented herself out on the streets of West Chicago, confronting ICE agents to protect her community. In the video, which she livestreamed on social media, she can be seen running through the streets to warn residents to stay in their homes and not open their doors. She then confronted a vehicle full of what she identified as masked agents, shouting, "Take off your masks! This is my city, and you need to get out!" This bold action by Senator Villa is a testament to what we need from our leaders; a willingness to go into the streets and use their power to defend the people they represent. This is a powerful moment, especially for those of us who have felt frustrated with the Democratic party for not doing enough. It is beautiful to see a politician literally stand with her constituents. We need more people like Karina Villa. |

Personal Update:
Below are some analytics from TikTok. This week I had the worst outreach that I have had in years on this platform. I have worked tirelessly to create a community where we can advocate for one another and this is heartbreaking.
I am unsure of what to do about this, I talked to my managers and they also seem unsure of what could be causing this. On other platforms my content and community is doing significantly better.
If you all don’t see my posts, please go look for me! I will not be deterred; pero si creo que tengo que pensar on a different strategy if this one is not working.
Open to ideas if you all have any!
